What is a healing crisis and how to get over it in a natural way.
A healing crisis is any of a wide range of acute symptoms which may occur during or after a treatment. Though on first inspection it might seem that the treatment is not working or is making the patient condition worse, these symptoms actually signal that the healing process is taking place.
Symptoms can include general fatigue pains/ aches, skin discharges, perspiration, chills, dizziness, coldness, vertigo, headaches, urination, emotional irritation, nausea and other flu symptoms. All these symptoms reported during the healing crisis are primarily effects of detoxification. Though there are variations, the onset of symptoms during the healing crisis is typically rapid, during as little as a few hours or as long as two or three days, depending on the stress levels. If symptoms pass this lapse of time, would not be connected to the treatment so asking for GP advice is recommended.
Though not all the clients perceive these symptoms, if you do, there are a number of things you can do for yourself without interfering with the healing crisis that is taking place:
- Sufficient rest is vital after a treatment when most of the times the body tends to feel tired.
- Foods heavy in protein or fat put high demands on the body or their digestion or absorption and should therefore be avoided. Meals should be kept simple, light, easily digestive and nutritious.
- Plenty of pure water, whole grains, fresh fruit and vegetables are recommended. Avoid foods containing preservatives, caffeine or sugar.
- Many clients experience exercise as being helpful and especially recommended exercise if the crisis is occurring on an emotional level.
A healing crisis can be seen as very positive event – it means that the treatment plan is on target and you have started on the road of better health, though it could be discouraging for you, the greatest challenge of healing crisis is not to become discourage, but to learn what the experience has to teach.
